
I found these incredible masks laying on a blanket
at an outdoor market. They are wood-fired Mexican
clay pottery and are ready to hang, either indoors or
outside in the garden or by the pool.
The masks varied in size greatly, so I brought back
2 very large masks, and 2 small ones. I have
put large photos of all four below.


Tears of The Indians

I am always amazed and delighted to see art
forms that demonstrate how closely connected
are Indian and Asian art. There is a true sadness
in this mask, It is magnificent.

Large
The Sun-Moon is a popular and pervasive theme in Mexican
folkart. I thought this one was especially pretty and
detailed. The colors are rich and inviting.

The Warrior
This fellow, with his red headress and strong brow,
is the warrior. This is a mask that is not styalized,
but is cut open so eyes can see through. The mouth is
open in a shout. This is a battle mask.
