Glass
is magic.
It
catches light, reflects it, and redirects it.
In the best of all worlds it is perfect, because
it is created by heating silicate (sand), and
can be broken up and re-melted to be used again,
and again. As it is recycled it begins to show
up with bubbles, tiny traces of color (regardless
of how diligently the glass is separated for color
by hand) and those imperfections that give it
the “art” glass look which fits so
nicely next to our old house slippers and wooden
flower boxes.

about who we are, from flower vases to holiday
ornaments. Our glass products are all recycled.

It
has been a great pleasure to go to the small tidy
factories in Mexico and watch several generations
together create really stunning glass items of
all shapes and sizes. And yes, the broken recycled
glass is sorted by hand in wash tubs and buckets,
then melted to be blown into something new and
wonderful. Different people are adept at different
glass skills, so everything from blown globes
to folded handles are managed by a highly skilled
artisan who appears to do this work effortlessly.
The work is a joy to watch.
The glass ornaments are heavy, and crackled. Like
all recycled glass the clear globes, in all categories,
can sometimes look pale green because of the thickness
of the glass. This is not crystal, so complete
clarity is not possible, but they do twinkle in
candlelight or next to lights on the tree.
They tend to be heavier than normal ornaments,
making them both harder to break, and harder to
hang. You should always expect to put these
on a heavier branch of the tree.
We are sad to report that our family glass factory went out of business due to illness. We did not have time to get the glass order
re-blown, so it will be 2008 before we have new ornaments for you.
